Flat-lay vs hanging
Don't want to flat-lay? FINE.
Flat-lays are not the only way to advertise your products when reselling. Other options include: hanging, modelling and videos. Not to forget you can just take the lazy approach and put in no effort at all. However I believe effort increases sales potential dramatically.
Don't hang yourself
Hanging is a popular option and it is very quick and efficient but be prepared to charge less for your effort. In my opinion using the hanging method make products harder and less likely to sell. This is because hanging products does not allow you to tell a story. You lose the opportunity of multiple product angles and it is harder to show functions and features. If a product is damaged or stained it is also harder to convey the damage clearly. Lighting products that are hanging to remove shadows is another issue, especially if you are lacking natural light. Typically if you hang your products you will have to charge less as then you're on the same level as people clearing out clutter, making you look less like a brand. Overall hanging your products is quicker than flat-laying but if you spend the extra time you can adjust your price and strengthen your branding and aesthetic allowing you to sell more.
For example, this is a north face 2016 dry-vent shell jacket. The best models of these range from 2014-2020 and they retail at £120 and above. I always find these jackets hanging and they do not sell for £30 or £40, so I pick them up, re-present them and they sell for £70-£105 depending on condition and colourway. The yellow model is particularly sought after and sells well.
Another example is this Nike running jacket I found that was listed on Vinted for 2 days with no buyers. It had an interesting plaid pattern, so I picked it up. Simply representing a product can add major value.
Modelling
Modelling and model videos are also an effective way to increase sales and engagement and I will cover modelling in another free course, including how to model efficiently. The main problem with modelling all products is that most resellers are a one man army, so not all products can be easily modelled. It is also difficult to effectively convey the condition of the products with model photos alone, meaning both are usually needed. Through my experience I have found the best approach to be flat-laying with a combination of model photos and videos. Flat-lays are effective and efficient but sometimes not every product looks great with a flat-lay, that is when it is best to add model photos to the beginning of the product listing. When a buyer views a flat lay they have to be able to imagine the product on them. I find jackets, bottoms and shoes are very easy to sell with just flat-lays. On the other hand t-shirts, dresses, hats, accessories etc. sell better modelled and they are also easier and more efficient to model with the right set-up.
In conclusion the flat-lay is by far the most efficient and effective way to advertise a variety of products in a professional manner to take your business to the next level. It is a crucial skill to master for anyone reselling if you to increase sales and attract more buyers.
